Based on the thrillers i've seen or researched for this it looks like it had its heyday in the 40s and 50s, specifically film noir. Perhaps we should look into making this in a similar vein? Some black-and-white and good use of lighting could create that kind of atmosphere we're looking for, always an option in editing anyway.
